About the software

PreviSat is a satellite tracking software for observing purposes. Very easy to use, it shows the positions of artificial satellites in real-time or manual mode. PreviSat is able to make predictions of their passes, predictions of MetOp and COSMO-SkyMed flares, ISS transits and several other calculations. PreviSat uses a modified version of the SGP4 algorithm (revised in 2006), which uses TLE orbital elements to calculate artificial satellites’ geocentric position. PreviSat can show satellites in either a world or sky map view. It is capable of calculating all passes for any satellite at any given location around the globe.

PreviSat’s main features are:

  • NORAD SGP4 model (Hoots, Roehrich, 1980; Vallado, 2006)
  • Modes: Manual mode / Real time
  • World map / Sky map
  • Visualizations of ISS Live and Wall Command Center
  • Topocentric / Equatorial / Terrestrial coordinates (satellites, Sun, Moon)
  • Satellite Information, Osculating Elements
  • Weather information for NASA bases and observer locations
  • Intuitive interface – handling of TLE and selection of location. Display options.
  • Prediction of passes, MetOp, SkyMed flares, ISS transits, and other orbital events (very quick calculations)
  • Skywatcher Mount Tracking
  • Satellite data Search (all objects referenced in NORAD since 1957).
