About the software
Stata/MP allows you to analyze data in half to two-thirds of the time than Stata/SE. This is compared to Stata/SE using inexpensive dual-core laptops, and one-quarter to one third the time with quad-core laptops. Stata/MP runs even faster on multiprocessor servers. Stata/MP supports 64 cores/processors
It is important to be fast when performing complex estimations. Some Stata’s estimation methods, including linear regression are almost perfect parallelized. That means that they run twice, four times, four times, eight times, on eight cores, or eight times faster than on two cores. Some commands can be run more than others. At the median, estimation commands run about 1.8 times faster in 2 cores than they do on 4 cores. They also run 2.9 times faster in 4 cores and 4.1 times faster when running on 8 cores.
